Coach Jim Shannon returns home to his alma mater for his first season with the Shamrocks, bringing 19 years of Archdiocese of Detroit coaching experience. As an associate coach, his primary focus is developing distance runners through a process-oriented approach centered on continuous growth.

Coaching Philosophy

"I've worked with all kinds of athletes—from those looking for camaraderie or cross-sport conditioning, to elite runners chasing the next level. My focus is meeting athletes where they are and helping them move forward, building a lasting appreciation for running well beyond their competitive years."

  • League Coordinator & Meet Director: Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) of Detroit Track & Field and Cross Country (9 years).

  • MITCA Middle School Coach of the Year: 2022

  • CYO Coach of the Year: 2018, 2021

Athletic Background

  • Detroit Catholic Central Alumnus: 2-year Varsity Letterman with the Shamrocks; earned All-City Honors (CHSL/PSL) in Cross Country.

  • Endurance Athlete: Successfully completed six full marathons.

Personal & Professional Life

  • Profession: Works in Product Creation & Industrialization Technology at Ford Motor Company.

  • Residency: Lives in Allen Park with his wife of 25 years, Emily, and their children, Madelynn and Meredith.
